Grant Description

Grants to Massachusetts nonprofit organizations for initiatives to improve the lives of vulnerable residents in eligible regions. Applicants must submit a preliminary application prior to submitting a full proposal. Eligible organizations must serve individuals living in Greater Boston (defined as cities and towns on or within Route 128) and the cities of Lawrence and Brockton.

Examples of target impacts:

  • Acquisition of educational/skills credentials as a component of a futures pathway
  • Successful transition to adult life for youth with disabilities
  • Stabilized housing
  • Mental health treatment
  • Reduced recidivism
  • Substance abuse remediation

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and remain in good standing with the IRS.

Clipper Ship considers funding requests from organizations with annual operating budgets of any size but anticipates awarding most of the available grant funding to organizations with annual operating budgets smaller than $5 million.

The Clipper Ship Foundation does not fund religious programs, hospitals, higher education, research, scholarships, fellowships, student loans or travel, writing or publishing of books, articles, or mass media, campaigns for endowment funds, or expenses related to conferences or conventions.

Milestone dates for the 2022/23 grant cycle

- November 3: Applicants may access the Concept Paper application in the online application system
- December 5: Concept Paper Deadline
- January 26: Full Proposal Notification
- February 24: Full Proposal Deadline
- March-May: Site Visits, Calls with Management
- June: Notification of Grant Decisions

Applicants must first submit a Concept Paper indicating the focus area that best aligns with its request. A select group of applicants are invited to submit full proposals and, potentially, to host site visits to review their requests in more depth.
