Opportunity for USA, Canada, and International individuals, start-ups, and small and medium-sized companies to participate in a competition. Funding will be awarded to proposals that offer the best and most innovative solutions to one of four financial and technological challenges. The competition is open to companies that believe they can change the way finance works and how banks meet their clients' needs.

The Challenges are:

  • Sustainable Banking
  • Reimagining Investing
  • App Stores and Platforms
  • Tech and Cyber Security

Each Participant is eligible to be considered for the Female Founder Award, which is a prize given in recognition of one (1) individual who is a female start-up founder or Chief Executive Officer.

Estimated Size of Grant:

Each Challenge winner and the winner of the Female Founder Award will receive a cash prize of USD 10,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible to participate in the Competition, entrants must either be:
- Individuals of 21 years of age or older; and
- Not subject to any bankruptcy or insolvency proceedings or any proceedings relating to the protection of rights of creditors;
OR
- Start-ups or small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that are ongoing business concerns; and
- Received less than US$150 million in total financing to date; and
- Have an annual turnover of less than US$150 million.

Pre-proposal Conference:

UBS is hosting launch events in five regions. Register now to take part and learn more about the challenges and how UBS collaborates with Fintechs.

Each event takes up to 60 minutes and gives applicants a chance to meet UBS management and connect directly with UBS experts. All events will be hosted on Zoom.

Pre-Application Information:

The Competition opens on July 1, 2021 and closes on August 6, 2021.

All Proposals must be submitted via the Competition website from 00:00:01 Central European Time (CET) on July 1, 2021 (the “Start Date for Submissions“) until 23:59:59 CET on August 6, 2021 (the “Closing Date for Submissions“).

Proposals will be reviewed between July 1, 2021 and September 30, 2021. During this time, representatives of UBS may contact Participants by telephone to discuss their Proposals and to obtain further clarification and information, as necessary.

Challenge winners will be chosen and announced upon the conclusion of the Competition on October 30, 2021.

The winner of the Female Founder Award will be announced in November 2021.

Timeline:
- July 5, 2019: Challenge Launch
- August 15, 2019: Submission deadline
- September 2019: Mentoring and pitch coaching

Regional Finals:
- Zurich: October 7 and 8, 2019 (Challenge 3)
- Singapore: October 9 and 10, 2019 (Challenge 2)
- New York City: October 29 and 30 (Challenges 1 and 4)

There is no limit on the number of Proposals that can be submitted by a Participant.
