Grants and in-kind services to USA, Canada, and International artists who demonstrate excellence and potential. Participating artists are given exposure, career-enhancing validation, and cash for demonstrating a serious commitment to their work. Awardees benefit by having their work presented to high-profile curators who are leaders in their field. Selected artists will have their work archived at Grants are available to artists working in any media.

The Hopper Prize was established to increase recognition of the work of visual artists. The goal of the Hopper Prize is to advance the careers of visual artists by providing unrestricted financial support in the form of individual artist grants. Winners are chosen based on the quality of their work. Awardees are selected by guest jurors holding prominent curatorial positions at major institutions. The Hopper Prize seeks to create new relationships between artists, curators, writers, and collectors in addition to providing unrestricted cash awards to artists.

The Hopper Prize is committed to supporting artists from diverse cultural backgrounds at all stages of their professional careers.

  • In addition to grant recipients, Hopper Prize curators select a shortlist of 60 artists annually (30 in Spring and 30 in Fall) to have their work archived alongside grant winners.

  • These elevated portfolio presentations function as a growing resource for curators, gallery owners, collectors, and arts enthusiasts.

During each cycle, 2 artists will each receive $3,500 and 4 artists will each receive $1,000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

The Hopper Prize is open to all artists age 18 and older working in any media.

The awards are open to artists residing internationally.

The awards are open to collaborative teams.

The Hopper Prize cannot currently accept applications for sound based art.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications are accepted twice a year, in the Spring and Fall. The deadline for the current grant cycle is May 18, 2021 (end of the day - 11:59 PM).

Apply as soon as possible, early applications are encouraged. Early submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis by The Hopper Prize administration who will be selecting artists for Instagram features @hopperprize.

Winners will be announced in late August 2021. This date may change slightly depending on how much time the jurors need to fully review artist's portfolios and to make their final selections.

There is a $40 submission fee due with your application.
