Grants of $500 to USA and Caribbean Black artists and cultural workers to support artistic work during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Funding is intended for projects addressing innovative communal activities to support the Black community, and research efforts centering Black communal and familial inquiry, transmission, and documentation. Black women, queer folks, trans* and gender non-conforming people, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Selection Criteria:

  • The BSR micro grant recipients will be selected based on criteria that includes, but is not limited to, the following requirements:
    • A demonstrated ability and commitment to developing new performance work that centers Black freedoms.
    • Submission of a project idea that demonstrates attention and commitment to collective need and learning.
    • Clear articulation of audiences served and collaborators engaged.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must:
- Live in the United States or Caribbean and be English-speaking;
- Identify as Black and/or be of African descent;
- Be artist(s) engaged in the practice of making performance;
- Individuals, families and collectives are welcome to apply.
- Non-Profit organizations are ineligible to apply.

- May 31 by 11:59 EST: Application closes + Application Panel (composed of Black Spatial Relics team members) will deliberate and determine awards.
- Mid-July: Award Notification + Payment
- May 2021—December 2021: Development and execution of project.
