On The Road With GrantWatch

Rendezvous Senior Day Services

Licha Kelly-King

Executive Director

A conversation between Licha Kelly-King, the executive director of the Rendezvous Senior Day Services, and Libby Hikind, the founder and CEO of GrantWatch.com Hi everybody. I am Libby Hikind, the founder and CEO of GrantWatch.com. And I am taking GrantWatch on the road to see you. And here we are today in Ketchikan, Alaska, meeting people that are using GrantWatch and seeing the wonderful, wonderful programs that they are able to run as a result of winning grants. I am looking forward to meeting all of you.

Q: What does your nonprofit do?

A: Say that you work, and you do not want your mom to be home burning down the house, you can bring her here. She would get two snacks a day — one in the morning, one in the afternoon, and a healthy lunch. Everything is homemade and handmade. We have lots of activities. We do a lot of things like play cards and cribbage.

Q: How has the funding found through GrantWatch helped?

A: Through GrantWatch, we were able to buy these two freezers and this freezer, because we prepare food for our seniors every day. And when COVID hit, we prepared food for three months and took it to people. Anybody can write a grant. It is not hard to read a grant. It is hard to find a grant. It is not good ‘grant writing.’ It is good ‘grant finding,’ and GrantWatch has helped me find grants to produce this remarkable garden and to help keep our organization going. Our seniors need a voice and that is what Rendezvous does. It not only provides a place for them to come but it is also a place of advocacy.
